Superior Performing AAWGs for Mobile Networks
LIVINGSTON, UK – March 8, 2018 – Kaiam is pleased to introduce two new products targeting Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) equipment for mobile networking and telecommunications: a 16-channel and a 48-channel athermal mux/demux. Both products operate on a 100-GHz grid in the C-band and are based on low-loss Gaussian Athermal Arrayed Waveguide Gratings (AAWGs).
The products incorporate Kaiam’s world-class SCOTS™ planar lightwave circuits (PLCs), which have been deployed in large volumes in demanding telecom and datacom applications for decades. Kaiam’s solid-state athermalized devices operate over the full -40 °C to +85 °C extended temperature range without the need for active heating or cooling, enabling them to meet the demanding environmental requirements of outside plant equipment in mobile networks.
Kaiam’s athermal AWG PLC technology has been battle-tested in the field for many years. Our combination of performance, reliability, and cost positions us uniquely to meet the demanding requirements of 5G networks. — Jeremy Dietz, Kaiam’s VP of Worldwide Sales & Marketing
“Wireline capacity requirements are dramatically increasing with the transition of the 4G mobile network to 4.5 and 5G,” said Jeremy Dietz, VP of Worldwide Sales and Marketing. “Kaiam’s athermal AWG PLC technology has been battle-tested in the field for many years. Our combination of performance, reliability, and cost positions us uniquely to meet the demanding requirements of 5G networks.”
In addition to being widely deployed in DWDM applications, SCOTS PLCs are used in each of the more than 300,000 advanced data center optical transceivers that Kaiam has shipped. These transceivers power the optical interconnects in many of the world’s hyperscale data centers. All SCOTS PLCs are manufactured in Kaiam’s fab in Livingston, Scotland.
